Title: Good Screen Protector?
Post by: NBraz on April 03, 2011, 07:40:14 PM
Can anyone recommend a good screen protector? Instead of using a 2mm thick plexiglass on top of my future dyi cintiq lcd i was thinking of using one good thin screen protector.

I've heard of:

NuShield
http://www.nushield.com/

InvisibleShield
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/

and Strong Engineering

(EDIT)  you want something strong for the pen -- but nothing that would block EM.

I imagine that the "decals" are soft and so the pen will still be "pressing/stressing" against the LCD.

Also the ipad/iphone stuff are specially formulated so your fingers can still be sensed by the "touch" sensor.

The anti-glare feature is quite nice, but I suspect this is not a hard-cover, it was not meant to be used with a pen.

people in here have been using plain acrylic or variant (and some had nothing).

Yeah bernard. I've read horrible reviews from the InvisibleShield ones in that sense. They're good for the ipad's/iphone stuff and that's it. They were not designed for pen use.

On the other hand the Strong Engineering ones have a "paper feel" to them. I recall a post from someone stating that on the concept art forum i think. Still trying to find a 1mm thinck acrylic but the screen protector idea came to my mind today.

problem with a foil is that it bends when you press your pen on it.
seeing a LCD screen isn't suppose to be pressed on it will give odd colors at the spot your drawing.

thus only something like a piece of glass or plexiglas will help anything really aslong as it will not bend and press on the screen on a small surface.

I know old thread, but other people read them to so:
Photodon has protectors in every size, and they act very correct.

Is it thick enough?

It looks like a soft film to me. It would be nice, but I think you would still need a piece of hard acrylic or glass to keep from pressing on the lcd itself. Limited sizes are carried by home improvement stores like Lowes in the US, but often the best place to get it is straight from a plastic manufacturer if you can, or maybe from somewhere like TapPlastics.
