hmm... not a bad plan... i'll see if i can find someone near me... I discovered that there is a local place (read 2 mins from my house!! woot!!) that cuts glass so i might just go there... it's just that where my drawing bit is there's a massive window behind me...

might just go with plan glass and a matt screen protector type thing depending on how much they distort... are the cintiq ones bad for that?

oooooooooooooo.....

http://www.wessexpictures.com/reflection_control.html

I shall be sending an email!!!

I will be pulling my finger out shortly.... had an incident with the wrong beer (i have gluten issues.. meh...) andhave been off my gamefor a bit... to the extent of jacking it all in and even binning my 2 month old PC!!

either way... brain works again.... also discovered a few bits n pieces along the way so the plan is changing slightly... i did think of going for an intuos 4 XL but saw the price and cried a bit... maybe next time...

either way need to do some more planning....back soon ish with proper plans...

well damn.... you were right...

I guess i'll have to find another use for it... that'll teach me... waited forever for it too... grrrr....

ooo...maybe a new light box.....

I thought I'd measured that with cd's on top of the screen... baaaallls... gonna have to check again dammit... the glass was only £30 so i'm sure i'll come up with a use for it....
5  Screen Tablet malarky / Build Logs / Re: WacSam? Wacsung? maybe something different? Who Knows!! on: May 16, 2015, 07:47:01 AM
hmmm... I'd decided against arm mounting as it was gonna be a pain to mount it... plus i already have a desktop easel frame that i made a 500x500 light box to fit out of 18mm mdf so i know it'll hold it...

i got to about 12mm above the screen before having pen issues so thought 8 would be OK... will hope I've not gone too far with it...

I'm planning to build from the screen back so if i could have a look at those vectors it would probably help a lot!!

not sure i follow...

i was being super parnoid about it being too thin... annoyingly tnt arent open on a weekend i have to wait till monday...

i hope its not too thick now... you've got me paranoid... the seller on ebay did 6mm as the smallest but i thought it may be too thin...

i decided that i can sort out any kinf od case without sorting the glass part first... have i really messed up going 8mm? I've waited nearly a month for itto arrive... Sad

Ooops.... forgot to add any ideas for a screen protector that is more like drawing on paper without making things difficult to see?

If not I'll probs not bother! Cheesy

Right... didn't realise I'd been off for so long!!!

Got glass arriving tomorrow!! Woot!!! 8mm toughened glass! Will sort out design once the glass arrives and I can start assembling and measuring properly... thinking one sheet on top fairly thin with holes for the buttons and another thicker sheet underneath that will hold everything in place... didn't mean to be so long but a change in jobs totally killed my free time... just starting to settle down so looking forward to getting this finished! Woop woop!! Cheesy

terrible pic below!!

But it works... I need to find something that i can keep the layars of lcd tight causethings kept moving as i was holding it and it looked like things weren't working properly but it was just the glass bit that spreads the light about not being in the plastic frame properly... i think the mrs has some foam tape which might do the trick depending how thick it is... need to not have it by the LED's themselves cause the get hot... quite quickly too...

so currently i have the metal bezel which i've taped up the bottom of to prevent shorts... then the plastic frame which holds everything together... but then there's a couple of mm gap behind it...

The wacom board now has the drawing film from the top  of the original case stuck over the drawing area where the monitor is going to sit... the way it works out the attached controller board (the one i knackered the screws on) will be folded out flat so i need some kind of backing to it.. maybe those anti static bags.. so that i can leave it lying on the top... theeen I'm going to wrap the metal sheet from inside the wacom with clingfilm and put it on the back so that it shields everything... THEEN when i can suss out inkscape ( apparently i'm really dumb and just don't get it!) i will get a celar sheet of perspec from the front... another sheet which will be the middle with holes cut out for the LED light power, the original ribbon cable and the board connector.... then i need to work out how i'm going to enclose the back... leaving a gap for the connectors and stuff...

Kind of hoping i can paint the back of the perspex so that the only actual clear bit is the screen part..

I will get there... phew... oh.. and i need to find out how to make it strong enough to attach to an arm too... urgh

yes... it turns out there is a way to bastardise them together...

AND IT WORKS!!...

i think... holding it at wierd angles at arms length with my legs behind my head i could see my windows screen!! light was a bit odd but i'm trying to sort it...

all i did was to pull the top layar off and put it with the back of the original!! who know lcd's were so simple!! (lol!!)

Arses...

Shoulda checked before buying the replacement screen...

I managed to get the screws out but then after realising the screen was loads thicker have discovered that it has a cathode ray light on the back...

the thick bit is the cathode tube thing at the back//

I was going to say that the ribbon cable was different.. which it kind of is but still fits and clicks in... just no metal around the clip..

sooooo...

is ther a way to butcher the screens together so I can use the original LED strip? or do i now need to find out what monitor it's from amd get the board from that??? if so will the cathode cause extra interfearence?

That's a damn goo point there....

Hmm...

Also anyone know what I can fill the case with to stop everything moving around in the gaps? Was thinking of using some kind of foam board...

Although... Cause I can't get rid of the polystyrene completely cause it supports the wacom control board if I make the case like boxes.... Hmm... Thinking 3d might be the plan for design now... Just to see how it all works...

Bah.... What a time for my pc to duck up!

well... been doing some research today...

That's how many cd's the pen works through to test for thickness of plexiglass... Cheesy 12mm!

shame the slidy buttons i have will only go through about 4mm... hope it'll be sturdy enough!! Cheesy

New monitor on its way too!!!

Gonna set up an inkscape thing to get a quote for laser cutting and etching for the front and work out how i'm going to attach everything together!! Cheesy

probs just get some poly cement and gluing it all together... or should I screw it... oh i don't know!!?!?!?!!!?!?!?!?
14  Screen Tablet malarky / Build Logs / Re: WacSam? Wacsung? maybe something different? Who Knows!! on: February 20, 2015, 09:56:09 AM
crap.. just realised that the polystyrene is keeping the controller board stable.... although... if I replace it with acrylic for the back and cut a hole out... hmmm.... gonna sit down this weekend and fully map this case out...

as to the plastic between screen and wacom i'll probs use the one of the top of the case if i can get it off cleanly enough... hopefully will come to the top of the board too so i don't have to wrap everything in those bags!!!

would clingflim or ceran wrap work as insulation? just thinking if i can do that and ditch the polystyrene sheet i's save myself 10mm in thickness... hmm...
