I have a feeling I found this forum just like several of you did and that was via a web search for making your own Cintiq.  I was drawn to do so after my brilliant idea of using an old TEKvision Inc. Slimage 710A touchscreen monitor I had lying around as a Cintiq failed.  It actually would have worked quite well but, the screen on mine requires vastly different amounts of pressure to register as a touch depending on the spot on the screen.  I don't know if the coversheet is worn out and is thus requiring high amounts of pressure to make the "connection" in the 5-wire resistive coversheet or if it is another issue.  The upper right corner works very well though as a Cintiq lol . . .

Anyway, I decided to see what others have tried as an alternative to a Cintiq since I have failed at finding a solution to correct the situation with my Slimage 710A.  In the process I stumbled across this board and have lurked the past few days.  I decided it was time to ask a few questions and in order to do so, I had to register.  And thus my introduction has come to an end . . .
