Hi Night, welcome to the forum.

The UD 1212 is the same as mine.  It's a little slower than a newer USB tablet and has a lower pressure resolution on the pen.  Neither of these issues are bad though, It's fine.   Grin

Pens are usually NOT interchangeable between different Wacom tablets.  They do have replacement pens for sale on the Wacom site (about $50 US), but only for certain models. Research carefully before you buy.

I use a serial to USB adapter lead.   It plugs into a USB port and shows up in the desktop as a COM port.
I got it from ebay for about £10.

I use the UD/Ultrapad driver from the wacom site.  (Driver Update 4.78-6 for Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000 & XP )

About the pen, the intuos 2 pen is not compatible. But most of the time it's cheaper to buy a small ADB tablet with a pen, rather than buying a new pen. I got one for just 7,50 euros (about $10?) that way.

That's true.  The UD drivers let you have multple tablets as well. so you can have the little tablets for the menus on your main screen.
I think you can check compatability on the US Wacom site

Yeah I bought a UD 1212 and it doesnt come with a puck or with a pen, but I was reading on wacoms site, they say graphire 4 pens can work with anything, atleast from what I saw lol.  I own a 4x5 Graphire 4.  I'll tell you how it is.

It's slightly slower than a USB one, but it's still doing 200 reports per second, so it's really not a big issue.  i go reasonably fast for some of the strokes on my YouTube vid if you want to look at that.
