IMPORTANT NEWS& ****

We will be migrating the forum to another server soon.
Coverage may be patchy during the process but not for too long.
If the forum is unavailable then please try again later.

Hopefully after the move we can start doing some other cool stuff such as fixing the image uploading (so no need for external image hosting), implementing a captcha instead of the "three posts" rule and spawning a  WIKI.

A wiki would be supercool.

What would also be cool, instead of a regular captcha, a maths problem. Or trivia.
That would work against more than just spambots!

We're nearly ready to go and migrate the bongofish forum, all thanks to the most excellent Bobs and Captain Haggis.  It's been a voyage of discovery, but land is in sight.

We've discovered a bug in SMF when running on some flavours of Linux which made the backup unfeasably large, (450Mb instead of 8-12Mb), which means the forums own backup system couldn't give us the files we needed,  and we hunted out a work around for it.  We've got a version running locally updated it to the latest version of the forum software, and added ReCaptcha, all ready for uploading to the new server.

So here's the plan...

Some time in the next day or two the forum will go offline, we'll grab the latest data, and hit it until it fits in the new box and do all the DNS pointy nonsense.

Stuff that might change:
If you've bookmarked the page then that _might_ end up invalid.
Depending on stuff we're still looking at you may need to log in twice or possibly change your password.  The changing the password thing should sweep out any remaining spambot accounts, so I'd like to be able to do it, we're looking into it.

Cheers

I've just spotted some stray '?'s lying around.   We might have to delouse the database a bit.   Grin
Talking of delousing, at some point in the near future I'll be asking everybody to change their passwords, just to remove the last of the spambots that might have snuck in before the move.

Well, up and walking at least.  Roll Eyes  I'll do a blanket post to everyone once the bugs are ironed out.
