Since we've got the captcha in place at registration the number of fake registrations seems to have dropped appreciably.  Not a surprise.
So I've decided to try dropping the three-reply rule for a while just to see how it goes.
There may be some dormant bots that come out of the woodwork so keep an eye out and PM me if you spot any spam.

Hello Bongofish, I'm not sure the three reply rule is lifted, maybe it has reverted with the latest down time?

( woh first post, stay tuned for my build log! and thanks for this great forum)

edit: okay i only needed this one reply!

Yeah I think that would be a good idea.   Or the other possibility is the "joinReason plugin. someone registering needs to give a reason why they want to join, and it has to be approved by a mod/admin.

Slower to register, but probably faultless at filtering out fake people.

Yeah, it is this whole question about being moderated or not.  Moderated could scare people out, or they register and then "nothing" since it does not work "right-away".

its a delicate balance.

I have decided.    Grin

I think the three post rule was a bit much so there is a change to one of the membergroups, the newbie.

The newbie is what everyone gets put into by default when they register.
The newbie can reply to a thread, and can send 1 personal message, (the minimum I can make it).
Once the newbie makes 1 reply they are upgraded to "new poster" and can reply as much as they like and can make their own topics.
