I've been researching required components and parts for building a faux-cintiq and I was curious about the LCD controller component.  If I'm using the LCD panel out of a LED-backlit IPS monitor and not a laptop screen, is a seperate LCD controller still needed or would I be able to use the components from the monitor itself?

If you use a monitor, then you can use the built-in controller of course. Actually, the first bongofish build was done with a monitor, not from a laptop LCD + LVDS monitor kit.
