I'm pondering picking up either the Monoprice 10x6.25 or 12x9" tablets since they're ridiculously cheap for what is reportedly an amazing tablet. However I'm not quite sure how to factor in what kind of display size I'd need.

Is it just a matter of finding a display that is exactly 12x9? Is there usually any superfluous space on the monitor? If so, how do you usually handle that?

I guess I'm just unclear as to how to proceed. I'd love to build a 10x6.25" cintiq clone, but I'm not likely to find a good monitor for that resolution so I'm ready to go up to the 12x9.

Normally you do not want areas that you have no "sensor" behind it.  It will become an unreachable area. There are tricks and ways but nothing will make the pen magically work when outside of the active area.

Search for Monoprice tablets in this forum to find their pros and cons. I think they are a repackaged version of another tablet.
