I've been looking for a cheap monitor for an 18x12 Intuos for a while , and found one with a very slight defect on eBay - it's a Dell 2209WA , IPS screen , 16:10.
But , darn it , it turns out to not have top and bottom backlighting , but an array right across the back of the screen , so it's useless as it stands. The only option is to find a broken monitor with functioning backlights to use behind the 2209WA screen. Any ideas on this , if it will work ? Or good monitors to look for with the right strength of light / simplicity of stripping ?
Or , has anyone had any success with diy LED backlights? There are some examples on the web but all tend to be slightly dim and with local bright patches at the edge where the lights are.
(Edit -a couple of days later) Hmm , on looking at the DIY option , it's probably a non-starter. There's a Dell 2208WFP with edgelights going on eBay, question is , would they be bright enough to replace the 6 u-shaped lights that are behind the screen at the moment?
