As many of you know, I am playing around with many LCDs that have eDP interface. The neat thing about these displays are that the LCD uses the DisplayPort signals and don't really need a board to drive them other than to power them.

If you are interested in buying a controller board rather than making one yourself, you can get one from these guys for 200USD. I, however, finds the pricing point of these boards RIDICULOUS and is continuing with my DIY.
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.4-4910526457.29.lenxPb&id=16850439705

I've emailed them and they told me the controller is compatible with iPad retina displays, and should also be compatible with many others. They do ship international as well.

The price is again quite high and the iPad screens and most eDP screens in general like the LP129 screen from the Pixel have annoying 2:3 or 3:4 ratios and will be quite hard to work with. Still, if you have the money to burn, go ahead.

I also have played with DIY controllers for my 13.3 inch 1080p edp panel N133HSE-EB1, but so far I haven't been able to get the quality needed to get it working. As I'm using the panel for a DIY projector, I don't even need to get the backlight working, but unfortunately I'm not an expert in soldering, so these ready made solutions seem quite interesting.

What do you think of this controller? The MDP97G3-V1.2. As far as I can tell this should support our eDP panels and it cost 'only' $95. Seems like an acceptable price for a controller like this.

I decided to try the controller I posted above. I bought 3 samples and they custom programmed the controller based on my data sheet for $80 each, but I did have to get custom cables made for another $12 each. It's working perfectly so far. $92 plus sending seems a very fair price for what this controller offers.

Can you detail the specific site you went to to buy the custom programmed controller?  The link above takes me to an all japanese site taobao.com, which looks to be a reseller instead of the manufacturer.  I am looking to get a controller to drive a VVX11F009G00 eDP panel http://www.panelook.com/VVX11F009G00_Panasonic_11.6_LCM_overview_21486.html

Time to revive this thread, I need DP controller too. I can make one but I need blueprints.

I'm building fancy custom powerful water cooled server/workstation to work with multimedia/3D rendering. I want to make it cool and win some modding prises a long the way so I found this forum and Thoth: that would be so cool to add mini LCD on side, started reading and narrowed to 3 LCD panels:
B101UAN01/2 (10.1" 1920x1200)
Ipad3 panel (9.7", 2048x1535)
GOOGLE CHROMEBOOK (12,9", 2560x1700)
(my Quadro 6000 has 2x DP, 1xDVI)

I want to make it touch screen, it a bit pricey but I think I can get USB touch panel for all.
Controller boards- for first one its not a problem, second one have 2 options:
Expensive one: http://dp2retina.rozsnyo.com
Descent price: http://abusemark.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=47&zenid=4a6a8dugititit9fqhil1ms341

For 3rd screen things got complicated, looks like if I want to enjoy insanely hi res in small screen, I need to build controller board myself cos I don't find any to buy, where do I start? Is it even possible? I would appreciate any help.
3rd screen specs: http://www.panelook.com/LP129QE1-SPA1_LG%20Display_12.9_LCM_parameter_16925.html

P.S. funny thing is - 3rd LCD is cheapest..

P.S.S. Sorry for my English, its not my native language.

EDIT:

Found anthoer iPad retina controller board  http://www.adafruit.com/products/1716    80 buks, still pricey..

Hi 3Dgeo, welcome!

Sounds like an interesting project. I can see you've already found a couple of controllers that I would have suggested (I own a Rozsnyo one), however I do have a suggestion of you want to make your own, and that is to visit Mike's mods website: http://mikesmods.com/mm-wp/?p=16

He has successfully built a controller for the iPad 3, detailing every step, and has very generously provided all of the gerbers etc required to get the pcb made.

Other than that, and as I'm sure you've already found, there's not much out there at the moment.

Can anyone say if these cheap Chinese copies of Retina display has good quality colors/contrast? Does its worth buying them? On price stand point it is..

Is it hard to convert HDMI to DisplayPort? Do I need simple cable or active adapter? I want to use Ipad3 LCD as my DSLR screen.

HDMI to DP needs an active adapter (the only ones I know are HDMI->eDP boards from NJYtouch on ebay)

Well well well, njyTouch! Welcome!

I would normally remove any advertising, but since it's relative to what we do here on this occasion I'll make the exception. 9.7" edp control boards for ipad3/4 for a very reasonable price! Good to know.
