Have you tried adding a special requirement on the registration? Are they bots or real people?

Drew, you need more mods, to keep it down as everytime I come on there is spam hanging around the place.

It is silly.

There's no requirements to registering at the moment, I've not done very much with SMF or PHP so I need to have a good rummage round the underskirts of the forum.  Perhaps genuine people should have to contact a mod to register. I know I've seen that switch somewhere. Roll Eyes

I'm going to clean down the membership list as well, get rid of anyone who's on the ban list or has only made one post in a long time.

That turned out to be pretty easy.
I've done the "have to reply to an email" thing.   If that doesn't work then I'll have to do the "send a request to a mod" thing.

From what I've been told, they have a program that targets forums that are not that busy. I know a few people who started forums and were not checking it, it would get slow, then they would get tons of spam.

SMF forums have a bit of a reputation for being vulnerable, but the three post rule has fixed the problem.
